Does it matter if a Japanese restaurant is not owned by a Japanese? Does it matter if the chef is not a Japanese? I would say no but the food has to be authentic! Let’s look at the food before making any judgement… The first thing we ordered was Avocado Sushi Roll, Agedashi Tofu and Plain Udon Soup for the kids. (sigh) Look at the so-called “freshly-made” sushi rolls, the avocado looked so dark and not fresh (sigh), I think it’s worse than the food court ones… We didn’t take photos of the tofu and the udon because they looked dull and boring…
They have dinner specials from Monday to Thursday for $15 cooked meals and $18 sashimi sets. Surprisingly the sashimi was very fresh and the serving was quite decent! Especially the complimentary chawanmushi (茶碗蒸し Japanese steamed egg with seafood).
Mr F ordered the Chicken Katsu set and it’s huge! The deep fried chicken was crispy and tender. And the complimentary salad and picked octopus were lovely!
I ordered a Sashimi Bento Box ($25) which is from the a la carte menu, you can choose the main course from tempura, terriyaki chicken, fish or beef. I picked Tempura Mix and they were not too bad. Again my sashimi was very fresh and very good quality.
The last dish we had was a Seafood Pasta in Japanese Style, the serving was huge!
